As the summer holidays are just starting you may be trying to think about good fun places to visit.
If your son or daughter or the person you care for or support needs hoisting equipment to get changed it can be even harder to find somewhere to visit for more than a couple of hours without having to return home or back to the day centre.
Have you heard of Changing Places?
These are fully accessible toilets with hoisting equipment, an adult sized changing table and enough space for 2 carers. There are now 400 Changing Places nationally.
See www.changing-places.org press on the link “Find a toilet” and enter a postcode.
There are Changing Places locally, at Huddersfield and Batley Town Halls, Temple Newsam, Lotherton Hall, The Ridings and the Trafford Centre – see the website for over 60 places in Yorkshire and Humber with Changing Places.
Visiting the site can be great if you are going on holiday and want to find the nearest Changing Place….there’s one in Bridlington, Cleethorpes, Whitby, Chester Zoo, Blackpool Tower, one at the Eden Project in Cornwall, Paignton, Bournemouth, Bude and there are 20 in the London area. Just type in the place you are visiting and find out where the nearest Changing Place is.
If you are visiting a venue for the first time we strongly advise you contact the venue in advance to discuss your requirements. Contact details for all venues can be found by visiting the Changing Places website and map. Please always check opening times and whether you will need to get a key to get in.
Slings are not provided in Changing Places so always carry your own sling when visiting any Changing Places toilet for health and safety reasons.
We hope you have found this information useful.
